Check out this video from Jana on how to wear a helmet safely! You can use a mirror to make adjustments or ask someone in your household to help!

At Velocity we believe everyone should be able to experience the benefits of cycling. We’re getting our friends and family involved to show that you don’t need to be Lycra clad to go for a bike ride. The important thing is that you’re comfortable, safe and you can be seen!
A few extra trips:
– Make sure your Velcro or laces are fastened or tucked in
– You can tuck loose trousers into your socks
– Try not to cycle with things tied around your waist
– Wear breathable layers!
– Cycling glasses can protect your eyes
Look out for a more family-friendly clothing check from Tilia later today!

The previous video (part a) gave us insightful ideas and tips on how to get dressed for a fast(er) ride or ride on busy roads.
When going out cycling in town or with the family, it’s not always necessary (or possible) to ‘dress up’ too much, so you’ve got to stick to the basics.
These are: check if your bike is road worthy, wear a good quality helmet, wear something visible on top and make sure nothing can get caught in the chain.
The picture below illustrates that quite nicely..:)
We’d love to hear your ideas about ‘family-friendly’ cycling; what do you do differently or additionally?
And then, for when you actually do cycle out onto the road and with traffic, there’s a whole set of rules and gestures to make that will help you cycle safely. We’ll get into that topic next week; the ‘road or essential cycling skills’.
