Velocity Dr Bike (mechanic)

Job Description

Dr Bike will run a stall on the High Street every Saturday with the aim of helping people learn how their bikes work, and completing bike safety checks and basic repairs. You’ll be enthusiastic about bikes and the benefits they bring and keen to share this with people.

    Details:
    Saturdays- 7 hours/ week
    Salary – £10/hr
    Contract – Fixed Term 1 year to 31st March 2017
    Holiday – 5.6 weeks pro rata

    Duties include

    • To set up and deliver a regular Dr Bike on the High Street of Inverness every Saturday

    • Using these events to promote the work of Velocity

    • communicating with the community about the different projects that Velocity delivers

    • supporting people to think about the gains of active travel on all levels (carbon, physical health, emotional and mental health, wealth….)

    • supporting people to learn to fix their own bike

    • fixing bikes and running bike safety checks as part of the Dr Bike service

    • promote Velocity’s vision and activities and encourage and promote access and involvement with Velocity to all members of the community

    Skills and Experience

    • enthusiastic and passionate about Velocity

    • excellent basic bike mechanics skills (wheels, gears and brakes) and good understanding or willingness to work towards more advanced knowledge

    • good communicator

    • able to confidently engage a wide range of people

    • good at supporting, encouraging and motivating people

    • good understanding of the benefits of active travel

    • keen to share your enthusiasm with others
