Job Opportunity – Bike Mechanic
Velocity Café & Bicycle Workshop is a social enterprise established in 2012 which believes in positive social change through a fair, sustainable, inclusive, active and happy community. Velocity is made up of three core parts: a vegetarian café promoting healthy and sustainable food, a bicycle workshop which champions repair and re-use and a range of projects championing waste reduction, physical and mental health through active travel, human connection and physical activity.
We are looking to recruit a bike mechanic to grow our workshop team, and create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Our workshop undertakes repairs and servicing on customers bikes, delivers community based events such as maintenance classes and Dr Bike sessions, as well as supporting the projects team in maintaining a fleet of bikes for participants and supporting Cycle Friendly assessments across the Highlands. We are looking to expand on our community programme and welcome ideas and input from staff on the workshop strategy.
What you may be doing at Velocity workshop:
Identify problems with a customer bikes
Estimate the cost of repairs and give quotes
Carry out a bike service and safety check
Carry out repairs, maintenance tasks and replace parts
Take bookings for repairs and process paperwork
Organise and deliver bike maintenance courses to the public and local cycling groups
Attend cycling events to provide repairs and technical support
Order bike parts and keep a log of stock
Liaise with suppliers and dealers
Organise and attend Dr Bike sessions to community groups or other organisations
Liaise with project teams to organise maintenance of fleet bikes and repairs for project participants
Maintain a clean and organised workshop
Ensure that the workshop has a welcoming and supportive atmosphere that encourages and enables customers and the wider community to ask questions and feel included
Maintain high Health & Safety standards and adhere to all Health & Safety policies.
Follow all risk assessments and safe systems of work relevant to your role.
Requirements:
Minimum 1-2 years experience as a bicycle mechanic.
Cytech Level 2 / Velotech Gold or equivalent qualification
Excellent reliability.
Good communication skills.
Enthusiasm for bicycles, maintenance and building a cycling community.
Full driving licence.

Hours: 30-35 hours per week. Shift pattern will require weekend and some evening working.
